Movie Reviews Part 1

Well, it took me over a year, but I finally finished all the movies on my list from last fall! Just in case anyone was wondering what I thought, here are my reviews and feedback from each of the films:

bohemian rhap

Bohemian Rhapsody: A+
As a Queen fan, I absolutely loved this movie. Rami Malek makes an amazing Freddie, as we explore his amazing life and talent. The music was exceptional of course, and the Live Aid performance is almost identical to the one from real life. Will watch again and again.

night schoolNight School: A
This was a hilarious feel-good movie that I would definitely watch again. It’s lighthearted and easy to watch, yet still relatable on a human level. I so appreciated that the story didn’t end up with Kevin Hart and Tiffany Haddish getting romantically together. At the one point I thought they might, she rolled her eyes with a “boy, I’m gay”. Yaasss girl!!

I genuinely applaud not only Jennifer Garner for her acting in this film, but mostly her agents for getting her this role. I’m truly impressed, and she killed it. In general, I think Hollywood is shying away from making movies like this now, but this was a great action movie. Bullets flying, car chases, explosions, all layered on top of a good plot line. It was easy to get into this movie and it wasn’t as predictable as I was expecting it to be.

The entirety of the movie takes place from the screen of a laptop, where we see the plot unveil through videos, messages, phone calls and more. It actually reminded me of an episode of Modern Family that takes place entirely on an iPad. The story was interesting enough to follow along, but the format of the film was what I liked the most.

I’m definitely not an expert when it comes to scary movies, but I really enjoyed this one. It helped to see some familiar faces from AHS and Weeds as the main characters, but even without them, the movie overall was pretty good. It had plenty of parts that made me jump, but wasn’t just gruesome for no reason. The creepy factor was high, and it wasn’t overly predictable. But again, I’m definitely not an expert in this area.

star is born

A Star Is Born: B-
The movie was wonderful, but was hyped up a little too much by the time I watched it. Everyone told me I was going to cry my eyes out, but I only shed roughly one tear instead. The best part was getting to see two of my favorite queens, Willam and Shangela, on screen in drag. Other than that, I mean yeah.. it was good I guess.

Next up, I’ll be making my way through the movies I listed from this summer.

Thanks for reading!
